My name is Patricia Lowery. My friends call me Patti.

I am a registered (pediatric) nurse, having worked both at Hospital for Sick Children on the Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit and at The Michael Garron Hospital (formerly Toronto East General Hospital) in the Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) I am also an elementary school teacher, having taught both Grade 4 Gifted at Roy H. Crosby PS and then Kindergarten at Stonebridge PS. Although I thoroughly enjoyed both professions, after a family emergency, as well as many heart-wrenching losses, I decided to step away from the fulltime hustle and bustle and concentrate on my first love – photography.

Funny how certain events make you see what is truly important in life! I have always been an avid photographer, but because of domestic/household and job responsibilities considered it more of a hobby, taking photos of family, pets, vacations and life events. Approximately 15 years ago I made the decision to turn my love of photography into my “new” career. After devoting the majority of my life caring for and helping others, it was my time to follow my true passion! What may set me apart from others in my field is that I do it first and foremost for me and the feeling of joy it brings me to capture the “perfect” image!

Sure, I would of course like to make a living from my art, but that would be an added bonus. For this reason, I feel that I have the artistic licence to be creative and unique. You will not see me posing individuals nor groups of people in unnatural ways. I prefer the real-life candid shot, the one that tells the true story, captures the authentic essence of the situation. I started out photographing bands and musicians, whether in local bars in downtown Toronto or underground on a subway platform.

I then began photographing a variety of sporting events, including polo and lacrosse, but was particularly drawn to the world of watersports such as water skiing, barefoot waterskiing, wakeboarding and kayaking on both a local and national level. Finally, my focus turned to the exciting world of wildlife photography, capturing images of all creatures great and small, from the mighty grizzly and polar bear, the majestic eagle and blue heron, the captivating viper snake and poisonous tree frog to the fascinating macro world of the wandering spider, honey bee and butterfly! I had found my perfect fit! I have learned from a number of mentors and formally studied all forms of photography, including landscape, food, product, travel and portraiture, but the largest piece of my heart belongs to the animal kingdom. There is just something so exhilarating about witnessing a creature in its natural habitat.

As you search through my galleries, you will no doubt notice that whether I am photographing a human or animal, the “eye” is of ultimate importance to me. I believe that the eye is the window to the soul through which you can “feel” and experience their life. My hope is that guests to my website will enjoy the visit, taking time to search through the galleries and explore the world through my lens. As I believe we never stop learning, I would invite, value and appreciate all feedback and any suggestions, so that I can continue to grow and develop my skills.

Guests may also, if they wish, purchase their favourite piece(s) in the form of digital file, physical print, by itself, framed or even put on a mug or t-shirt! AND finally… I would love to help YOU document something special in YOUR life! I hope you visit again and often!
